Information and Tips On Living With Lupus

// September 23rd, 2013 // No Comments » // Apps, Diseases, Information Technology

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune
condition and affects nine times more women than men. It is also very common to have more
than one autoimmune condition. The most common autoimmune conditions to have
with Lupus are, Thyroid Disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Raynaud’s Phenomenon and
Antiphospholipid Syndrome. This can make diagnosis difficult, as the symptoms
can be very similar in each condition. Blood tests at times can be very
unhelpful in determining which condition is causing your symptoms at that moment in time, so
at times treatment can be trail and error to see what works.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is where the immune system
becomes overactive and begins to attack itself. The immune system can no longer
identify between good and bad cells. This means that the immune system can
attack any organ or system in the body. Each sufferer will have different
symptoms.

The causes of Lupus are still not completely understood. It
is thought that it is a combination of lifestyle, environmental factors and
having close family members with other autoimmune conditions. The most common
triggers for a Lupus Flare are exposure to sunlight, stress and certain drugs.

Many Systemic Lupus patients take prescription drugs and
quite often more than one. When you are taking a number of different drugs it
would be a good idea to discuss with your chemist how and when you should take
each medication. Taking a lot of different medication can be difficult
especially when you have a poor memory. The Smart Medical Diary is perfect for
this as you can set up reminders for taking your medication and also set
reminders for when you need to order more.
